Coronavirus policy *Last updated July 2020*

This policy outlines some of the key measures I have taken to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus (COVID-19). Please note the content may be subject to change.

Adhering to guidelines

Throughout the pandemic, I will be following guidelines issued by the government, NHS, other relevant authorities and my professional association, the Federation of Holistic Therapists, regarding safe and hygienic practice and the use of any personal protective equipment (PPE).

COVID-19 Risk Assessment

I have carried out a full risk assessment, in line with guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), in order to:

   - identify what work activity or situations might cause transmission of the virus;

   - think about who could be at risk;

-decide how likely it is that someone could be exposed; and to

-act to remove the activity or situation, or if this isn’t possible, control the risk.

Health screening

Prior to seeing any of my clients, I will be:

  • monitoring my own health and deferring treatments if I have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19.

  • contacting my clients 24 hours in advance and deferring any treatments if: they have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19; are clinically extremely vulnerable and shielding; anyone in their household has COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19; they have been in close contact with someone who has symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days; they have been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace Service and told to self isolate.

  • asking my clients to call and cancel and defer treatment on the morning of their appointment if they have a temperature or other symptoms of COVID-19.

Enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures

I have introduced enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures between clients, which includes washing and disinfecting any non-porous surfaces and therapy equipment, such as chairs and couches, oil bottles and replacing any porous or single-use items, such as towels and couch roll. Strict personal hygiene measures will also be adhered to, including regular handwashing/ sanitising.

Extra hygiene measure include:

  • I kindly ask clients to bring their own pen and water bottle, no hot drinks are no longer provided – however water is available in disposable cups.

  • Instead of toweling I will be using thick cotton sheets to save space, if you would prefer towels please bring your own towels from home.

  • Please try to use your own toilet at home before your treatment, access to the salon toilet is restricted (but not off limits) due to the cleaning procedures in place between each use.

  • I will be contacting all clients the day prior to treatment via telephone or email for an update on any possible covid symptoms and to discuss what issues you would like to focus on during treatment, this is to cut down on contact time and also ensure appointments run to time as I will be cleaning everything thoroughly between clients.

  • I will be using a slightly bigger treatment room with a sink temporarily if possible with a back door, this door will be kept open very slightly to maintain air circulation during treatment if the client is comfortable with this due to there being no windows in the room.

  • If you have had a letter from the NHS requiring you to shield, please defer all treatments until safely instructed by the government.

  • You will be required to wash and sanitise your hands as soon as you arrive for your booking.

  • Please bring as little possible with you into the salon, if you bring bags / coats they must be kept with you at all times.

  • Please bring your diary, as appointment cards cannot be supplied at this time.

  • The salon is being treated with a special sanitation mist that eliminates all viruses and bacteria to ensure the space is as hygienic as possible, this lasts for seven days.

The use of PPE: *Updated 25th February 2021*

  • I will be wearing both a visor and mask throughout your treatment for your safety.

  • Please wear a mask when you visit the salon for your appointment, current salon policy is that all clients wear masks inside to protect the health of our staff and clients.  Due to the higher transmission rates of the new covid 19 variants you will be required to wear a mask for the duration of your treatment, I advise a medical type mask rather than a cotton style for breath-ability. I keep these in the salon should you need one. If you feel too uncomfortable to receive treatment in a mask once it has started, we can stop the treatment and you will not be charged. This will be reviewed when a higher percentage of people and myself have had their covid vaccinations.

Adapting or restricting treatments

It may be necessary for me to adapt or restrict certain treatments, in order to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 and/or protect my clients’ health and safety. Any clients likely to be impacted will be advised as soon as possible.

Current restrictions include:

  • No facial or hand massage until further notice.

  • No 90 minute treatments until further notice to reduce contact time.

  • All Pregnancy Massages will need to receive the ok from their midwife before treatment.

Maintaining social distancing

Please note that while many treatments involve close contact, I will be observing social distancing measures wherever possible. This might include, for example, maintaining an appropriate distance during the consultation process and when arriving and leaving for an appointment.

Please arrive alone to your appointment and on time, if you are early please wait outside in the fresh air as the waiting area is currently closed.

Cancellations policy

If a treatment is cancelled or deferred at short notice because my client has COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19, any standard cancellation fees will be wavered. The client will be asked to kindly confirm in writing that their appointment has been cancelled or deferred because they have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19.

I am happy to be contacted to discuss any aspect of your treatment during this time. Please contact me at: norwichmassagecompany@gmail.com

Had my second pregnancy massage yesterday at 35 weeks and it was just as good as the first one at 29 weeks. I wish I had started earlier in my pregnancy! The whole experience was amazing from the foot soak at the start of the massage. The foot and scalp massages shouldn't be missed!
